The Donoho School and K98 Scholar-Athlete of the Week: Chandler Collins

Scholar-Athlete of the Week: Chandler Collins

Chandler Collins, a junior, is a member of the varsity football team, playing as a wide receiver, quarterback and fullback, and he is a member of the varsity soccer and tennis teams.

Chandler carries a 4.0 GPA and scored a 30 on the ACT. His favorite subject is history. When asked why this was his favorite subject, he commented, “Our teacher, Mr. Matt Ford, brings history to life and helps us see the broader picture instead of focusing on dates and facts.” His greatest academic achievement is maintaining an A average in all his classes because it has taken a lot of hard work, determination and nights of studying to maintain his grades.

Athletically, his greatest achievement has been receiving the Falcon Pride Award for two consecutive years and being a member of the successful 2011 and 2013 football teams. When asked who has had the most influence on him as an athlete, he said, “I think that our head coach, Shannon Felder, has influenced me the most athletically. He teaches his players that the world isn’t about football, and he teaches us to be mature, determined, hard-working people.”

Chandler serves on the Student Government Association as the junior class president and is a member of the school’s honor council. He is a member of the Knox Concert Service Committee, Chess Club, Drama Club, French Club, Marksmanship Club, Science Club, Spanish Club and Young Democrats of America Club. He is also involved at Golden Springs Baptist Church in the youth group and served as the city of Anniston’s photographer during the summer for Mayor Vaughn Stewart.

Chandler is the son of Jeff and Mitzi Collins, and the brother of Clayton, ’07 and Caroline, ‘09. He is undecided about his future college choice but plans to study international business and would like to attend a college or university that has a strong study-abroad program.

Congratulations, Chandler!
