Outstanding Alumni: Dr. John Wilson, ’76

Dr. John Wilson is a graduate of Anniston Academy (‘76) and a summa cum laude graduate of Birmingham Southern College (‘80). John pursued medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, later completed his residency at Medical College of Georgia in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, and became a surgeon specializing in head and neck cancer procedures.

John practices with Premier Medical Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat in Mobile, Alabama. He has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Otolaryngology and currently serves on the board of Surgicare of Mobile. John is a professional who has risen to the top of the medical field in Alabama. He continues as a busy surgeon in the Mobile area.

In addition to his medical accolades, John is a member of the Coastal Conservation Association, Little Lagoon Preservation Society, Spanish Fort United Methodist Church, and was a charter member of the Spanish Fort Education Enrichment Foundation.

He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilson. He is the brother to Mrs. Jane Wilson Wells ‘74 and Dr. Julia Wilson ‘84. John and his wife, Esther, reside in Spanish Fort, Alabama, and have three children: Alexandra, Jack, and Claire.

When asked of the advice he would give to our students, John shares, “As a young person, go out of your way to create good memories. Travel, cultivate friendships, seek out adventure. You will be glad you did. Remember though, college will end. You will be expected to support yourself and maybe a family. Think about your future. Strive to find a goal that you can work toward, live with, and that will enable you to live independently. Seize the day!”
