Message from Dean of Students Russ Connell

“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.”

–William Shakespeare

Having taught Shakespeare for many years, I have always marveled at just how apropos his verse can be, but this line from Sonnet 18 strikes quite the chord as I write this. Alas, summer is but a memory, but solace can be found in the fact that there is so much in store!

A new school year represents a new beginning. I am sure you all have taken care of your textbook and supply list purchases, and with the first day of school approaching, I wanted to share a word with you pertaining to Donoho Joe, our coffee shop.

Currently, 1 lb. bags of Donoho Joe are for sale through the Upper School office for $14 a bag (whole bean or ground). Moreover, our DoJo thermoses are in, and they look great! Remember, students must have travel thermoses to be served at Donoho Joe, and ours can also be purchased through the Upper School office for $10 a piece. Friday’s schedule pick-up day will be a perfect time to go ahead and buy several Donoho Joe thermoses for the year!

We will be giving away free samples of Donoho Joe Monday during break! This will be an opportune time for students to not only sample Donoho Joe Black but to buy their thermoses. Donoho Joe will officially open Tuesday morning at 7:30. We will serve Donoho Joe Black for $1, Flavored Donoho Joe (caramel macchiato, vanilla, butter pecan, hazelnut, and mocha joe) for $1.50, and Organic Green Tea for .50. Coffee will be available by the pound from the shop, as well.

The shop looks great, and I would once gain like to acknowledge Brian Simmons for his creative guidance, support, and gifts toward making Donoho Joe a space that we can ALL take great pride in! I welcome you to come take a quick look whenever you are on campus, and I can’t wait until the DoJo is complete with art from Mrs. Landrum’s art class.

Hope to see you soon, and GO FALCONS,

P.S. Please follow me at my NEW Twitter account, @Russconnell (I am migrating away from @dhotwitlit)! Lots of good updates and pictures @Russconnell!
