Middle Schoolers are Acting with Humility with Middle School LEAD Enrichment

Each new quarter brings new and exciting opportunities for Upper and Middle School students to engage their passion through Enrichment held during the advisory period on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Many students have participated in Yoga, Debate, ACT Prep, Life Skills, and more! Last quarter, Middle School teacher, Mrs. Golden, chose to create an Enrichment called Middle School LEAD, based around acting with humility to allow students to engage in community service on a deeper level.

In only a few weeks, students in Middle School LEAD found multiple ways to serve the community. Sarah Waggoner is leading an initiative to write and decorate letters of encouragement to local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. She invited the Lower School students to participate in this project as well. Sarah also started a drive for used test prep books (ACT, SAT, etc.) to donate to students who are unable to buy their own. Emma Obermeier led a toy drive for Children’s Hospital, and Emma Kim and Mary Marshall Perry are collecting crayons to be donated to the children at St. Judes Hospital. Lily Grace Draper and Harper Pumroy are collecting gently used clothing for children in foster care, and Claire Hillman is leading a used book drive. The books donated will go to Leaps Academy Dayschool and Therapy Center for Special Needs.

This upcoming quarter, Entrepreneurship/How to Run a Business will be offered to 7th-12th graders and led by 8th grader, K.B. Benkwith. K.B. has the opportunity to lead this enrichment because it was his idea! K.B. presented this idea to Mr. Connell and it was approved!
