Alabama Girls State

Maggie Wakefield, Maggie Miller, and Gracie Perry attended @alabama_girls_state at @univofalabama this past week. Female high school students who have completed their junior year are competitively selected and sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary units. They learn about the political process by electing officials for all levels of state government and actively running a mock government. The girls are assigned to mock cities and either the “Federalist Party” or “Nationalist Party.” Maggie Wakefield was elected chairperson of the Nationalist Party and Gracie was elected to the City Council of her city. Maggie Miller wasn’t able to attend last year due to COVID so we are glad she was able to attend before she heads off to college.Â
