Outstanding Alumni Testimonial: Dr. Beth Gibbins White, ’88

Dr. Beth Gibbins White, DVM, is a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist and a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologist (ACVO).

Dr. Beth Gibbins received her B.S. in Biology from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina in 1992 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University in 1996. Following graduation, she practiced general small animal veterinary medicine. It was during these years in general practice that a passion for veterinary ophthalmology developed. In 2000, she returned to Auburn University and completed a one year veterinary ophthalmology internship followed by a three year veterinary ophthalmology residency. In 2004, she joined the specialist at the Emergency and Specialty Animal Medical Center and founded the Animal Eye Center in Birmingham and a satellite location in Huntsville in 2005. Dr. Gibbins is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association, the Mid- States Veterinary Medical Association and the Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Gibbins is a member of the Boykin Spaniel Society and Boykin Spaniel Rescue, and is a foster mom for Boykin Spaniels. From 2004 – 2007, she volunteered with the Hand in Paw organization.

Dr. Gibbins is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George Gibbins of Anniston. She lives in Birmingham, Alabama with her husband Phil White and their four boys – John, Michael, Charlie and Alex. She is a member of Canterbury Methodist Church.

What is your favorite memory during your time as a student at the Anniston Academy/The Donoho School?

My favorite memories would have to be hanging out in the senior lounge, eating lunch outside in front of the flagpole or when my dad would take my friends and I to away football games.
