Tri-m
Music Honor Society is a program of MENC: The
National Association of Music Education whose
National Office is located at the MENC headquarters
in Reston , Virginia .
The
Tri-M Music Honor Society was developed to motivate
students, recognize their efforts, and honor their
accomplishments. It shall be the purpose of the
Tri-M Music Honor Society to give its chapters
the opportunity to provide an appropriate method
of recognizing musical achievement; strengthen
school music programs; help students reach their
full musical potential; motivate and recognize
students’ musical and personal achievements beyond
the incentives of credits and grades; encourage
instrumental and vocal students to work together
toward common goals; present an inspiration and
challenge to music students; and focus public
attention on school music programs throughout
communities.
Candidates
for membership shall be chosen from those 10 th
, 11 th , and 12 th grade students enrolled in
their school’s music department who, at the time
of their selection, meet the following requirements:
1.
Music- They must have enrolled in a school-sponsored
music ensemble and/or class for at least one semester.
2.
Character- They must be of excellent character,
exhibit a good attitude toward teachers and fellow
students, and be cooperative and helpful in their
classes and school.
3.
Grades- They must have maintained for the previous
semester an “A” average or equivalent in music,
with at least a “C” average in other academic
subjects.
