Teacher Feature: Cody Elliott, PreK Teacher
Cody Elliot is excited about her students and wants to make a difference in their lives. Teaching is more than just a career for Mrs. Elliot, it’s a mission. Elliot says, “I want to be that teacher/person that a student will someday look back on and know that I really cared about them.”

After a visit to her classroom, it is apparent that she is completing her mission.

Q: Why do you like teaching at The Donoho School?

A: The Donoho School students, parents, and staff are like an extended family. Everyone takes care of one another. I love watching the older students taking the time to get to know and welcome the newest and youngest members.

Q: What is a unique experience, talent, or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students? What do you want your students to gain from having known you?

A: My passion is to teach the children something new each day. My excitement for a new lesson is passed to the student. We have so much fun learning together. I want my students to understand they are all unique, and that it is okay to be different. Our differences are what makes the world such an amazing place. I also want them to understand that our words, body language, and actions mean everything. Using these tools can either bring joy and peace, or cause hurt and havoc. I want them to understand that thinking before speaking may be the difference between a happy heart or heartbreak. Learning this lesson in PreK will benefit them for life!

Q: What is your favorite part about your role at Donoho?

A: My favorite part about teaching PreK is that they LOVE LEARNING! We learn everything through playful activity. They think they are playing all day, when in reality, they are learning so much and having a blast doing so. I am not sure who is more excited to come to school everyday!

Q: If someone were to observe your classroom on any given day, what would they see?

A: ACTION! The students are always engaged in some type of activity throughout the entire day. Their little minds and bodies are constantly growing and adapting, so we work to fill each moment with interactive learning that engages multiple senses.
