The Donoho School and K98 Scholar-Athlete of the Week: Camryn Swain

Camryn Swain, a junior, is a member of the varsity volleyball team, playing as a defensive specialist, and a member of the track and field team, competing in long-distance running events.

Camryn carries a 4.2 GPA and scored a 26 on the ACT. Her favorite subject is history. When asked why this was her favorite subject, she comments, “I love to learn about every piece of history and how it is connected in some way, whether it be cause or effect.” Her greatest academic achievement was competing at the national level of National History Day (NHD) for her project on Louis Pasteur. She researched and compiled her findings for six months, creating a website that was presented at this event.

When asked who has had the most impact on her athletically, Camryn says, “My brother, Quinlan, I believe has influenced me the most. He is two years older than me, but we’ve always been competitive with each other. As I got older, that competitiveness was carried out in sports. It made me want to be the best and strive for that possibility.”

She is a member of the Drama Club, Knox Concert Service Committee and Spanish Club. She is also involved in a local animal shelter in Wedowee and participates in the annual Lake Wedowee clean-up project.

Camryn is the daughter of Bill and Cherie Swain of Wedowee, and sister of Quinlan ’14. She is unsure about her college plans, stating that she is looking at both in-state and out-of-state options, but has recently turned her college interests to Auburn University and at this time plans to major in marine biology.

Congratulations, Camryn!
