The
fifth grade technology classes produce the Lower
School's newspaper, “FalconPride”.
The students, with direction from the technology
teacher, are responsible for deciding on the articles
to be included in each edition of the newspaper.
The first month of the school year is used to
learn how to use the publishing software, how
to use a digital camera, and how to insert graphics
and digital pictures into the articles. Learning
about copyright laws and proper citing techniques
are an important part of the process.
The
students review and practice keyboarding skills
taught previously so they will be more productive
as they work on the paper. Skills, such as proper
capitalization and punctuation, effective wording,
and proofreading, are discussed and used. An editor
is chosen for each edition. Computer classes 5A
and 5B alternate responsibilities for producing
the editions.
