INTERSTITIAL
SPACES: Woodland Microcosms
An
exhibition of Paintings by Pandra
Williams
Fargason Center Gallery, The Donoho
School
2501 Henry Road
Pandra
Williams' commitment to environmental
activism informs her work as an artist.
During her research into the vital needs
of rescued native plants she became
aware of hidden forest floor dramas
of symbiosis and parasitism. Taken collectively,
these microscopic activities affect
the planet's enormous biosphere.
"We tread above teeming microscopic
cities of activity, usually unaware
that the air we breathe and the trees
overhead are both affected by the insignificant,"
Williams explains. Working primarily
in oil glazes on metal, she investigates
these layered communities of unregarded
organisms in the forest floor.
Willliams lives and works in the Atlanta
area. She blends the traditional materials
of ceramic, paper and wood with non-traditional
materials and techniques for paintings,
sculptures, and installations.
This exhibition was organized by Donoho
parent Sarah Landrum.
The public is invited to the opening
on September 30 from 5 to 7 at no charge.
Interstitial Spaces will continue
until November 7.
Gallery hours are from 9 until 3 weekdays
and by appointment by calling 256-435-5072.
Williams will spend Thursday, September
30, at the school discussing her work
and conducting a workshop with Donoho
students.
