Fifth Grade Visits Little River Canyon

Twenty-five fifth grade students and thirteen adults participated in JSU’s Little River Canyon Field School on Friday, May 6. Students did water quality testing to find the pH and temperature of Little River and also did a survey of the micro-invertebraes found in the water. Larry Beame provided a program on Native Americans of the Paleo and Archaic periods. He demonstrated various Native American weapons and games. Students also had a course on herpetology with most students getting up close and personal to various Alabama reptiles. The group also went on a botany hike and learned about various edible and medicinal plants.
